OXFORD SAVATE Hosts First GBSF Championship League Event of 2009
|
GBSF League Event 1: Sunday March 9th 2008: General
Information
This will be a competition following normal Savate rules. For clarification
of the rules, or any further information please call Laura Gilbert on 07866
743849 or email
instructor@oxfordsavate.co.uk.
The cost will be £8 to compete, paid at the door. Spectators are welcome to
attend for free.
Weigh-ins will be 9.30-10.15am, with fights starting at 11am. Fights will
continue until 5pm and the competition will close by 5.30pm.
Note that parking is limited (on-street), so please seriously consider public transport.
Oxford traffic is unreliable so please leave plenty of time to get
here. There are shops a 10-15 minute walk away but it is recommended to
bring your own food and water. It's important to stay well hydrated
throughout and keep your blood sugar up, it's a long day.
There are plenty of Bed and Breakfast establishments nearby. Venue:
Wychwood School Hall
Wychwood School is an independant girls' school situated close to Oxford
town centre, on Banbury road which leads north from Oxford to the ring road,
past Summertown. It is a boarding school and it is therefore important that
we do not disrupt the normal running of the school. There will be signs to
the competition so please DO NOT ring the school directly or ring on their
bell. Buses between central Oxford and Summertown via Banbury Road
include the
Oxford Bus Company 2, 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D,
RH Transport Services 25 and 25A and
Stagecoach 7, 7A, 7B, 17, 27A, 27B and 27C. Any of these buses will run
close to the venue.
The address is 74 Banbury Road, Oxford OX2 6JR
map. There is some parking on Cardwell Road and Northmoor Road. Public
transport is recommended however. If you need help planning your travel,
email me.
Important Details for Competitors
1) The hall opens at 9.30am. Weigh-ins are 9.30-10.15am and competitors MUST
weigh-in in this time period. If you weigh into the category below the weight
you wish to fight at you will be required to fight in the lower weight category
(or withdraw). If you weigh into the category above the one you wish to fight in
you will be allowed a further two attempts to weigh into the lower category, if
you so wish. If on the third attempt you are still above the maximum allowed
weight you must fight up a category. There will be NO exceptions to these rules
and competitors will DEFINITELY not be allowed to argue themselves into
categories they have not fairly weighed into.
2) You MUST come with the correct kit. This consists of either an integrale
or other sports clothing in a decent state of repair. Baggy clothes are
dangerous to your opponent (feet can get caught in them) and will not be allowed.
No competitor will be permitted to fight without a suitable GUM SHIELD and
boxing gloves of the appropriate weight (see bottom), groin protection is
required for men, and chest and groin protection are encouraged for women. Head
guards are permitted. Kit will be checked.
3) Shoes MUST be worn. Permitted shoes include savate boots, boxing boots,
squash shoes and limited other types of sporting shoe. Other shoes can be worn
provided that they are in a decent condition and that they have no buckles,
"sharp" edges or large ridges. Fighting shoes will DEFINITELY be CHECKED at weigh-ins and
shoes considered dangerous will be banned. If in doubt bring more than one pair.
Laces must be taped up with masking tape before a bout for safety.
4) No jewellery is permitted excepting those piercings etc. which CANNOT be
removed, and these must be well and securely covered in tape. Competitors
entering wearing jewellery in this fashion do so at their own risk, and the
fight will be stopped if the jewellery does not remain safely covered
throughout.
5) To enter you must be physically and medically fit to compete. Entry is
taken as an assurance of your fitness.
6) You must either hold a GBSF licence or be prepared to buy one on the day
(£16 for a years licence) by way of indemnity cover. If you have a licence book,
it would be helpful to bring it.
7) Contact will be very strictly controlled. If you are not prepared to
compete with a level of contact appropriate to Savate assaut, don't bother
coming.
Important Details for Officials
1) Referees are expected to be properly attired in black trousers (can be
sports trousers if necessary), white shirt and ideally bowtie (which may be
borrowed on the day).
2) All officials must hold qualifications from GBSF or equivalent testifying
to their suitability to judge/referee.
3) Ideally prospective officials should email me stating their willingness to
serve in advance of the event, emails of this nature will be met with much
gratitude!
