TRAINING TIMES AND VENUES

We train every Monday evening, at the Church Hall in Summertown (click here to see a map). Note we are in the Upper Hall, and it's on the second road on the right north from the Summertown shops on Banbury Road (note - the church itself is on the first road on the right). It's less than 10 minute bus ride from Oxford town centre, and there is a small carpark for drivers, but it's difficult to find parking so if you can park elsewhere that's ideal.

Beginners: 7.30-8.30. £22 (£20 concessions) for a four week course. Courses start the first Monday of every month.

Advanced: 8.30-9.30. £6 (£5 concessions) per class.

Sign up for Beginners Course: pay here by credit card using paypal, reserve a space by emailing me or just come along to the class. (To be sure of a place on the Beginner course it's advisable to book, but you are welcome to just show up if it's more convenient. )

Currently the classes are only open to adults (over 18s) and are suitable for people of any age, so long as you are able to carry out mild exercise. Depending on ability and fitness it is possible to work out at a high level throughout, or very gently, and the techniques are adaptable to take into account many personal limitations. If in doubt, please consult your GP before coming along.

Anyone wishing to start Savate training, who has not practiced Savate before with a GBSF club, is required to attend the four week introductory beginners course. On this course you will learn all the allowed kick and punch techniques, stance and many defensive moves. Students on this course are automatically insured.

Once you have completed the beginner course you will be welcome in the advanced classes on a drop-in basis.

To attend the advanced classes you MUST purchase your own insurance (through the instructor, forms can be downloaded here) at a cost of £16 for one year.  You are welcome to email me the form and pay here by credit card using paypal:

(However remember you need to give me a passport picture to get your licence booklet!)

You would also be encouraged to buy your own gloves and shinpads (see Kit). People attending the advanced sessions are welcome to come along to the beginners beforehand for no extra charge.

Dress: Normal gym gear is suitable, something comfortable but not too loose-fitting. Shoes should be flat, with soles that are not too sharp or very ridged. The club has boxing gloves to borrow, but if you have your own boxing gloves, shinpads or a mouthguard (for advanced) bring them along. All jewellery must be removed for safety reasons, and piercings covered over by a plaster or similar.
